What is Martureo.Org?

Martureo.Org is not an "organization" as such --- it is simply an Internet tool that was (and continues to be) developed in order to:

  • point people toward a true saving faith in Jesus Christ; and
  • help people who have already attained a saving faith in Jesus Christ move closer to Him.

It is our prayer that you will move a little bit closer to God as a result of your contact with this web site. Whether you're a seeker, a skeptic, or simply curious --- we say "Welcome!"

The content of this site is based on the solid foundational truths of the Bible. We hope you are challenged to dig deeper, to dig into the Bible yourself, and to comment or ask questions (via the link at the upper right of each page).

It should be understood, however, that the best "answerer of questions" is God Himself --- and we encourage you to speak with Him in prayer about whatever is on your heart!

What else does Martureo.Org do?

In addition to the content of this web site, Martureo.Org develops and distributes a Windows-based software tool named ChurchTrax that any church (especially a new one, or one that needs a better way to keep its records) may utilize to store a wide variety of information about its members, attenders and supporters along with their contributions and donations.

A full range of reports is provided, including mailing labels, church directory, name and address listings, contribution statements, contribution analysis reports, etc. And paper is not the only output produced by ChurchTrax:

  • You may produce any report in PDF format, which may then be browsed and/or distributed via email;
  • You may extract data from any of the three ChurchTrax databases in an Excel spreadsheet format for further analysis and use;
  • You may direct ChurchTrax to create a direct data feed of bank deposit information into your church's accounting system (Intuit's QuickBooks and Quicken are currently supported).

What does the word "Martureo" mean?

μαρτυρε’ω / martureo / mar·too·reh·o

Martureo is the English way of spelling (and pronouncing) the Greek word shown above.

The New Testament of the Bible, having been originally written in Greek (with the exception of several Aramaic words), uses this word nearly 80 times.

In its verb form, this word is translated as "to bear witness," "to testify," "to bear record," "to be a witness," "to give testimony," "to have a good report," etc.

Strongs 1996 Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible defines the word as follows: "1 to be a witness, to bear witness, i.e. to affirm that one has seen or heard or experienced something, or that he knows it because taught by divine revelation or inspiration. 1A to give (not to keep back) testimony. 1B to utter honourable testimony, give a good report. 1C conjure, implore."

Noting its definition, noting all of the various ways this single Greek word is rendered in the English language, and bearing in mind the intent of this web site, the name Martureo was chosen.

What are our foundational beliefs?

The following paragraphs describe our foundational beliefs ranging from "The Bible" (shown first, being the lynch pin on which all hinge) to "The Church" and "Living the Christian Life."

 The Bible: We believe that the Bible (both the Old and New Testament) is the Word of God and thus God’s message to man. We believe it is fully inspired, was without error in the original manuscripts, was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, shows the path to salvation, and has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct of life for the saved.

 God: We believe in One God eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that these three persons are equal in their divine nature and while executing different offices, operate in harmony.

 The Father: We believe in God, the Father, an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of all people, that He hears and answers prayer, that He sent His Son, and that He acts justly by saving from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

 Jesus Christ: We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son as both truly God and truly Man. We believe He is our sole Mediator and sole intercessor, in His pre-existence, His incarnation, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement as the willing sacrifice for sin, His bodily resurrection from the dead, and His personal, visible and imminent return from Heaven to set up His kingdom.

 The Holy Spirit: We believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, Who alone reveals Jesus Christ through the Word of God. We believe that He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and that He regenerates, sanctifies, and empowers all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide.

 Man: We believe that man was created in the spiritual image and likeness of God. We believe that in Adam's sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Now all people are totally depraved by both nature and choice, and of themselves, utterly unable to remedy their lost condition.

 Eternity: We believe in the eternal existence and resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the saved unto the resurrection of eternal life in union with God; and the lost unto the resurrection of eternal damnation, separated from God, doomed to everlasting and conscious punishment.

 Salvation: We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by God's grace and received by personal faith alone in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That faith permits the Father to act justly in bestowing salvation and imputing Christ’s righteousness on the saved. Our redemption is accomplished solely by the blood of our Savior, who was made to be sin for us, dying in our place, and paying the complete penalty for all our sins. No sincere efforts to be good, no submission to rules and regulations of any church, no human merit, no sacraments or ceremonies or purifying fire can take the place of or be added to the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary.

 Eternal Security: Those being called the saved, bear such designation indicating their eternal preservation and everlasting blessedness. Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security.

 Ordinances: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church to be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. These ordinances are observed as acts of love, identification and obedienace toward Jesus Christ by the saved of His church. Neither ordinance participates in the salvation of the individual.

 We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God and represents the outward sign of an inward change.

 We believe that Christ instituted Communion (the Lord's Supper) for commemoration of His death.

 Living the Christian Life: We believe that the Christian life is lived for the glory of God and for the well being of others. We believe that such a life may only be lived through sanctification - not through one’s own efforts, but through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

[also, see "The Church"]

 The Church: We believe in the universal Church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all regenerated persons are members. We believe in the local church, consisting of a fellowship of believers around the person of Jesus Christ, observing His ordinances, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, associating for worship, work and fellowship. We believe that God has lain upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
